Event photography in Sekinchan / Sabak Bernam area

A paddy field or fishing village makes a lovely backdrop, and the owner and the season both have a say.

Short answer

Name the exact field, village property or coastal site, and find out who can give permission to photograph there. The look you want may depend on the season and on the owner's operations, so ask for confirmation for your date. Choose a fallback in case the site cannot be used. We confirm the plan in writing.

Sekinchan is a coastal town in the Sabak Bernam district of Selangor, known for rice fields on one side of Federal Route 5 and a fishing village on the other. Families often ask for portraits in the fields or by the sea. This page helps you plan that stop around the owner, the season and the main event. For the state overview, see event photography in Selangor.

One scope for the area

Sekinchan and the wider Sabak Bernam area share the same questions, so we treat them together. Nearby is Kuala Selangor, covered in our Kuala Selangor guide. Sekinchan is about 90 km from Shah Alam, in Selangor's northwest coast.

What exactly is the setting?

Tourism Selangor says the paddy fields cover about 180 square kilometres along Federal Route 5. The fishing village lies to the west, by the sea, and the fields lie to the east. You can drive beside the fields, and roads lead to a small village in the middle. Some rice mills allow visits. The fishing village has boats, a jetty and seafood.

These are working places. The field is a farmer's livelihood, and the jetty belongs to fishing families. Name the exact field, road or jetty. "Sekinchan paddy field" is not an address.

Permission and respect for working land

Ask first, and ask the right person. The fields are worked by many farmers, and nearby Tanjong Karang sits inside an integrated agricultural development area for the northwest of the state. We cannot say who owns a given plot. Ask your host, a village head or the local authority to point you to the owner.

  • Stay on the road or bund the owner approves. Do not walk on planted rows.
  • Keep vehicles off narrow farm roads unless the owner agrees.
  • Do not fly or place equipment near machinery.
  • At the jetty, ask the operator before using boats or stepping on the pier.

Our guide to remote and rural event locations explains how we plan these stops.

Does the look depend on the season?

Yes. Tourism Selangor describes fields as green during sowing months and golden at harvest. It gives harvest as around May to June and November to December, and sowing as around March to April and August to September. News and travel sources give slightly different windows, and planting is staggered, so one plot can look different from the next. Fields look brown and bare after harvest.

So ask the owner or the agricultural office what the field will look like on your date. Do not promise the family a golden field. In harvest months, machines may be working and access can be restricted.

Events also affect traffic. Tourism Selangor held a Sekinchan Paddy Field Festival at Terminal Sekinchan on 26 and 27 April 2025, with a 2026 edition announced. Ask the host whether a festival or school holiday will crowd the roads.

Heat, light and weather

Open fields have almost no shade. Midday sun is harsh and tiring. Early morning or late afternoon works better. Our guides to bright daylight and shaded portrait options and outdoor photographs when shade is limited explain the options. MET Malaysia explains the monsoon and inter-monsoon seasons that bring rain and wind to the west coast.

A fallback that works

Choose a substitute before the day: a kampung veranda, a covered pavilion, or a garden at the main venue. Our outdoor alternative plan and guide to what makes an indoor weather alternative usable help you set a trigger time. Use the venue photography checklist for the main venue.

An example scenario

Imagine a family celebration at a town hall in Sekinchan in the late morning, with a 20-minute field portrait stop at 5pm. The host asks the field owner, who agrees and says the plot will be green. The host plans a shaded parking spot and a short walk. If the owner calls on the day to say the field is being harvested, the group goes to the village home garden. This is only an illustration.

Comfort for the group

Older relatives tire quickly in heat and on uneven ground. See older relatives who tire quickly. Plan seating, water, shade and a short route. Use the event portrait appointment planner to set a sensible time.

Common questions

Are the paddy fields green or golden on my date?

We cannot say. The look of a field depends on the planting and harvest cycle, which the owner or farmer controls. Ask the owner what the field will look like on your date, and do not plan the photographs around a guess.

Can we walk into any paddy field for portraits?

No. Fields are working land and usually private. Ask the owner or operator for permission, and ask where you may walk, so crops, channels and equipment are not damaged. Send us the answer.

Is Sekinchan the same as Sabak Bernam?

Sekinchan is a town in Sabak Bernam District, which Wikipedia describes as the westernmost district of Selangor, on the border with Perak. We treat the area as one scope. Give us the full address of each stop.

How do we plan for a large group or older guests?

Narrow bunds, mud and hot sun make fields hard going. Tell us who needs a hand or a short walk, and choose a spot reachable by car where possible. We adjust distances and timing.

What if the site cannot be used on the day?

Agree a substitute in advance, such as a garden, a shaded verandah or a spot near the main venue. Name who decides. This keeps the day on track and the group comfortable.
