Event photography in Taman Tun Dr Ismail / TTDI

A neighbourhood event is often short, with many people who all want something different from the photographs.

Short answer

Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) is a residential township in Kuala Lumpur, so most events here happen in a hall, school, restaurant or home with its own booking terms. Establish what your booking includes, whether an outdoor portrait session needs separate approval, and which groups must be photographed. Our team confirms the plan in writing.

TTDI events tend to be close-knit and short: a community dinner, a school function, a family celebration in a restaurant. The photographs matter to many people at once, so the plan needs to be clear about space, groups and choice. See our page on event photography in Kuala Lumpur for the wider context.

Is TTDI the same as Taman Tun Dr Ismail?

Yes. TTDI is the common short form, and we treat both as one locality. It is a mid-sized township within Kuala Lumpur, on the border with Selangor, with DBKL as its local authority. Neighbours include Sri Hartamas and Bukit Kiara, which we cover separately under Mont Kiara and Sri Hartamas.

The area has schools, offices, a dry market and eateries, and Jalan Damansara and the TTDI MRT station on the Kajang Line are listed as main access points. Parking is often described as limited, which affects arrival time for a crew carrying equipment.

Which areas does your booking cover?

Hall, school, restaurant and private-home bookings each define their space differently. A restaurant booking may cover a private room but not the corridor or the car park. A school hall booking may exclude classrooms and fields.

Ask the venue to name the rooms, hours and entrances your booking includes. Where school premises are involved, our page on school and early-learning event photography covers participant and approval questions.

Does a nearby outdoor session need separate approval?

Sometimes. Taman Rimba Kiara is a public park in the township, and the Federal Court's 2023 decision on the development order is reported to have kept its public status. That does not tell you whether a commissioned group session there needs permission.

Ask park management or DBKL, whose e-Borang page lists the forms City Hall publishes. A hypothetical example: a family celebrating in a hall wants a ten-minute group portrait outside afterwards. If the outdoor spot belongs to the venue, ask the venue. If it is public, ask the authority. Agree a covered alternative using our outdoor alternative plan.

How do we balance participant choice and the groups you need?

Some people love being photographed, and others do not. Both can be true at the same event.

  • Essential groups are the ones the host names, such as grandparents with grandchildren, the committee, or a class. Put them in a written list.
  • Optional photos are offered, not required. Guests who decline are not chased.
  • Candid coverage continues around the groups, so the event is not only posed images.

For example, an alumni dinner for a hypothetical 60 guests might name three essential groups: the committee, the oldest alumni and the organising teachers. Photographing those first, before the meal is served, leaves the rest of the evening for candid coverage.

Our guide to organiser instructions and individual guest preferences explains how to set this up, and camera-shy adults offers calm approaches. The group photograph planner turns your list into a timed order, and the photo sharing and privacy plan records who may receive the gallery.

What to tell us

Send the venue, an optional outdoor location pin, participant ages, programme length, the important groups and any privacy preferences. If the event is a family occasion, our page on family gatherings and remembrance photography covers the personal side.

We read the brief, ask what is missing and confirm the date, venue, crew and deliverables in writing. The crew assigned to your event is confirmed when the booking is confirmed.

Checklist

  • Name the venue and the rooms or areas your booking includes.
  • Decide whether a nearby outdoor session is wanted, and where.
  • Ask the venue or park manager for current photography terms.
  • List the ages of participants and any children.
  • Write the must-have groups in priority order.
  • Collect any participants' privacy preferences before the day.

Send us the venue, the programme length and the groups you most want photographed, and we will propose a short schedule that respects participant preferences.

Common questions

Are TTDI and Taman Tun Dr Ismail the same place?

Yes. TTDI is the short form of Taman Tun Dr Ismail, a township in Kuala Lumpur. It borders Selangor, so for boundary-sensitive addresses we still ask for the full address.

Can we take group photos in the nearby park?

Possibly, but check first. Taman Rimba Kiara is a public park in the neighbourhood, and managed outdoor sites can have their own rules. Ask the park management or City Hall (DBKL) whether a commercial or group session needs approval.

How do we handle guests who do not want to be photographed?

Tell us in advance and ask the host to pass the message on. A simple opt-out arrangement, such as a marker on name tags agreed with guests, works well, and it is easier to agree before the day than to fix afterwards.

How long should we allow for essential group photos?

It depends on the number of groups and how easily people gather. Count your must-have groups, allow a few minutes each, and add a buffer. We can refine this with you once we see the list and programme.

What happens next: You send your event details on WhatsApp. Our team reads the brief, asks what is missing, then confirms in writing whether the date, venue and coverage can be booked, with a quotation. Opening WhatsApp does not send anything, and a message is not a booking until both sides confirm.
