Pitas is a district, so the photographer needs the exact settlement, the working entrance and how people and equipment reach the site. Send a venue pin or the host's own directions, the access arrangements you have confirmed, what the site offers for power and shelter, and a second contact for the day.
Pitas is a district in the far north of Sabah, roughly 180 km from Kota Kinabalu and four to five hours by road depending on weather and road conditions, according to a June 2025 Borneo Post column. The same column found that the town has no international-standard hotels or resorts and that homestays are the main lodging, so crew accommodation is a real question. The Sabah government's culture and tourism news lists Pesta Bengkoka, held each May, as the district's official annual event. Venues named in reports include Dataran Bengkoka, Bay View Pitas and Rosob Pitas Mangrove; the column described them as neglected, so confirm condition and permission with the host. Our Sabah overview covers the wider state and our Kudat page the northern travel context.
Which settlement is the event in?
District labels cover a wide area. A wedding feast in a village, a school sports day in town and a community meeting at a hall can all be called "in Pitas" and still sit a long way apart.
Write the settlement name, the venue name and any landmark that locals use. If the host calls the place by a different name from the one on a map, send both.
What is the working entrance?
Large sites often have more than one gate or landing point. The crew needs the one that matches the programme, not the one a navigation app picks.
Ask the host which entrance guests, family and vendors use, and where the crew can unload. If the answer differs by time of day, write that down.
Which access arrangements are confirmed?
Access can be by road, by boat or by a mix of both, depending on the venue. Do not assume. Ask the host or the operator what is available for your date, and send us what they say in writing.
For any boat or other transport operator, confirm the schedule with that operator directly. We do not assume that a service runs, and the quotation states who arranges and pays for each transfer. Our guide to confirming the exact venue before requesting a quote explains why this comes first.
| Question | Who can answer it |
|---|---|
| Which road or route do guests use? | The host or someone who has driven it recently |
| Does any part of the route need a boat? | The host and the operator |
| Is the route open on your date? | The operator or the local authority, close to the day |
| Where does the crew park or land? | The host |
What does the site offer?
If the event falls in May, check whether Pesta Bengkoka or a village Kaamatan event shares the roads and halls. Ask about overnight lodging early, since homestays are small.
A site brief saves a lot of guessing. It covers electricity, covered space, seating, toilets and drinking water for the crew, and whether the area is exposed to sun or rain.
Pitas receives heavy rainfall through the year according to reference sources, so ask where the programme moves if it rains. Our venue photography checklist lists what to note down.
Why a second contact matters
Where signal or access is uncertain, a second person at the site is the most useful detail in the brief. This person can meet the crew, point out the family members who matter and reach the host if the order of events changes.
What we need from you
Send the settlement, the pin or directions, the access arrangements you have confirmed, the site support details and two contacts. We then confirm the date, the travel and the crew in writing. Our outstation planning guide explains how we think about travel.
Checklist
- Name the settlement, not only 'Pitas'.
- Send a map pin or the host's written directions.
- State which entrance the crew should use.
- Confirm any road, boat or other access directly with the operator or host.
- Describe electricity, shelter and seating at the site.
- Say how reliable phone signal is.
- Give a second contact who is physically at the event.
Send us the settlement, a pin or the host's directions and your second event-day contact, and we will tell you what we still need before we confirm the scope in writing.
Send our Pitas venue detailsCommon questions
Is Pitas the same as Kudat?
No. Reference sources list Pitas as a district in Kudat Division, alongside Kudat and Kota Marudu. The division is a useful way to browse, but your plan depends on the actual venue address, not on which division it falls in.
What if there is no street address?
Many community venues are known by name rather than address. Send a map pin, the name of the nearest recognisable place and written directions from the host. Ask someone who has driven the route recently to check them.
Do we need to bring our own power?
Ask the host what electricity the site has and whether it is reliable on the day. We plan battery and charging arrangements from that answer, and we confirm anything we need you to provide in the quotation.
What if phone signal is weak at the site?
Tell us in advance. Agree a meeting point, a time to arrive and a person who can be reached by landline or in person. A second contact matters most where signal is uncertain.
Can you cover an event reached by boat?
Ask us. If any part of the route is by boat, the operator and the schedule must be confirmed by the host or the operator for your date, and we write the transfer responsibilities into the quotation.

Send our Pitas venue details
Send us the settlement, a pin or the host's directions and your second event-day contact, and we will tell you what we still need before we confirm the scope in writing.
What happens next: You send your event details on WhatsApp. Our team reads the brief, asks what is missing, then confirms in writing whether the date, venue and coverage can be booked, with a quotation. Opening WhatsApp does not send anything, and a message is not a booking until both sides confirm.
