Give us the full venue address and the name of the institution. Find out who may approve a photographer commissioned privately, and where ceremony and group photographs can be taken. Then schedule students, staff and families in blocks and agree who sees which gallery. We confirm the plan in writing.
Kuala Nerus is the newest district in Terengganu. Wikipedia says it was declared on 18 September 2014 and was formerly part of Kuala Terengganu District. It is still governed by the Kuala Terengganu City Council. The district includes Gong Badak and is home to Sultan Mahmud Airport, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin's main campus and a teacher education institute.
This page is for an organiser of a ceremony or community programme who is not sure which label to put on the enquiry. For the state overview, see event photography in Terengganu.
Which place do you mean?
People say Kuala Nerus, Gong Badak, Kuala Terengganu or "the city" for the same event. For planning, the label does not help. We need the institution's name, the building or hall and the full street address.
This matters because the institution, not the district, decides who works at the ceremony. Two venues a short drive apart can have completely different rules. Our guide to confirming the exact venue before requesting a quote explains why.
Access for a privately commissioned photographer
Institutions usually organise their own official photography. If you are a family, a faculty, a society or a sponsor asking for separate coverage, ask the organising office what applies to you. Questions to put to them:
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| May an outside photographer work at the ceremony? | Decides whether we can attend |
| Are there set positions or areas? | Shapes where we stand |
| Are group photographs allowed in the hall or only outside? | Sets the portrait space |
| Is a pass or name list required? | Affects arrival time |
| Are tripods, flash or lighting restricted? | Shapes equipment |
Send us the answers in writing. We do not assume the rules of any campus. The venue photography checklist helps you ask.
Scheduling students, staff and family groups
Group photographs take more time than the ceremony. Think about who needs a picture together: cohorts, supervisors, families and friends. Schedule each category in a block with a start time and a helper who calls the group.
A block with a helper moves faster than one where people drift in. Our guide to planning group photographs without stopping every guest offers a method, and the group photograph planner helps you list the groups.
Gallery access for different audiences
One ceremony serves several audiences. Graduates want their own portraits. Families want a gallery they can share. The institution may want ceremony highlights. Decide before the day who sees what.
- Which folders each audience can see.
- Whether graduates can download their own pictures.
- Which images may go on a public page.
- Who approves the public set.
Our guide to organising delivered photographs by session, activity or participant group shows the options, and the photo sharing and privacy plan records your choices. Where participants are minors, our guide to children's event photographs lists the questions for the authorised adults.
Should this be separate from Kuala Terengganu?
We keep Kuala Nerus on its own because the task is different: institution-led ceremonies, many groups and layered gallery access. A family event in a city hotel is better read on the Kuala Terengganu page. If your event is in Kuala Nerus but is a private celebration, that page may suit you better.
An example scenario
For example, a faculty plans a convocation for 400 graduates in an institution's hall. The faculty office confirms in writing that a privately commissioned photographer may work from a marked area. Groups are scheduled in blocks after the ceremony, with a faculty helper for each.
The organiser names one office as approver for any public use. The gallery has a folder for each programme and a ceremony folder. Families receive access to their own graduate's folder. We confirm the coverage, crew and deliverables in writing before the day.
What to tell us
- The institution and the exact venue address.
- Who commissions the work and who is the access sponsor.
- The ceremony time and when groups can be gathered.
- The participant groups and approximate sizes.
- Who needs which gallery.
We accept enquiries for Kuala Nerus and confirm date, travel and crew for each booking in writing. See also graduation and convocation photography and campus, student and alumni events.
Checklist
- Write the institution's name and the exact venue address.
- Name the commissioner and the access sponsor.
- Ask the organising office about outside photographers, in writing.
- List participant groups and expected sizes.
- Plan blocks for group photographs with a helper for each.

Plan photography for our campus ceremonyCommon questions
Is Kuala Nerus the same as Kuala Terengganu?
No. Kuala Nerus has been a separate district since 2014, although Kuala Terengganu City Council looks after both. The airport and several institutions are in Kuala Nerus. Tell us the street address and name of the institution, not only the city label.
Can a photographer we hire ourselves work at a graduation ceremony?
It depends on the institution. Many have their own rules for photographers. Ask the office that organises the ceremony, send us what they say in writing, and we plan from that. We do not assume the rules of another campus.
How do we arrange group photographs of many students?
Schedule groups in blocks of a manageable size, each with a start time and a helper who gathers them. A realistic block is shorter than people expect. Tell us the group categories and we help set the length.
Can students and families have separate galleries?
Often yes. Tell us the audiences in advance, such as graduates, faculty and families, and we explain how the gallery can be organised. The agreement states what each audience may do with the photographs.
Who approves photographs before they are published?
Choose one named person or office and tell us. For a university or school, this is often a communications or student affairs office. Without an approver, captions and release often stall.

Plan photography for our campus ceremony
Send us the institution, who commissions us, the ceremony time, the participant groups and who delivers access. We will outline coverage and confirm it in writing.
What happens next: You send your event details on WhatsApp. Our team reads the brief, asks what is missing, then confirms in writing whether the date, venue and coverage can be booked, with a quotation. Opening WhatsApp does not send anything, and a message is not a booking until both sides confirm.
