Event photography in Lundu

Your programme moves between a few places in the Lundu area, and each one has its own host and its own rules.

Short answer

List every property in the programme and treat each as its own site with its own host or operator. Get permission for each ceremony, activity and portrait spot. Confirm covered space, crew accommodation and what happens if the outdoor plan changes, and have local people review any cultural descriptions.

Lundu is a district in the north-west of the Kuching region, on the road towards Sematan and close to the Kalimantan border. Its best-known sites are managed by others: Gunung Gading National Park, which Sarawak Forestry runs, and the beaches and fishing port of Sematan. A retreat, coastal event or community occasion here often moves between properties. This page helps you plan those moves. Our Sarawak overview covers the wider state, and our Bau page covers a neighbouring district.

Which venues are included?

Write the town, community and coastal venues separately, with the day and time of each. A district name is not a destination. "Lundu" might mean the town, a village homestay, a park, Sematan or a beach resort further along the coast.

If the programme starts in one place and ends in another, list the order. Each property has its own access, host and rules, so the crew's plan follows your list. Our guide to confirming the exact event venue explains why.

Who gives permission at each place?

Ask each host or operator what applies to a professional photographer. A ceremony is different from an activity, and both differ from a portrait spot on a beach or in a garden. Ask in writing and send us the answers.

For the national park, the Sarawak government's ticketing service says online entry needs a Sarawak ID account and a ticket valid for one redemption. Older guides list a separate camera fee and say trekking needs an official guide, but fees and rules change, so ask the park headquarters about commissioned photography rather than relying on those. Sarawak Tourism says access to some islands in Talang-Satang National Park needs special permits, and sources disagree on who may visit, so treat any marine park stop as a separate permission request to Sarawak Forestry.

Our privacy and permissions guide explains consent for the people in the images.

How do we get between Lundu, Sematan and the coast?

Sematan is the fishing port and beach town on this coast, and its concrete jetty is the departure point for boats to Telok Melano and the offshore islands. An older guide says boat services are infrequent and unavailable in the monsoon months from November to March, and boat times to Telok Melano vary between sources from one to two hours. Confirm every boat arrangement with the operator for your date, including capacity for gear.

Treat any transfer as an item in the timetable. We do not state journey times, because roads and sea conditions change. Our team accepts enquiries for Lundu and confirms travel, crew and timing in writing for each booking.

What about shelter, stay and weather?

Reference sources describe heavy rainfall across the year, and an outdoor stage can become unusable within minutes. Choose a covered space at each property before the day, and agree who decides to move. Our outdoor alternative plan helps with this. If the programme is long or starts early, agree crew accommodation and who pays, since beach properties often have limited rooms. Our guide to venue conditions explains how weather affects light.

Who reviews cultural descriptions?

Customs vary between families and communities, even within one district. Lundu has a large Bidayuh community, according to reference sources, but we do not generalise from one occasion to others. Ask a local person, such as the host or an elder, to review any caption that describes a ritual or a group. We use only what they approve.

An example

For example, imagine a company running a three-day team retreat with 45 staff, using a coastal resort, a community visit and a final dinner at a hall in town.

The organiser lists the three venues and gets the resort's written terms for photography on the beach. The community host decides what may be photographed during the visit. Each venue has a covered alternative. The organiser confirms the crew's stay at the resort and names a staff member to review the captions.

Moving between venues

Each move between properties takes time that the programme should show. Add the move to the timetable, name who leads the group and say what the crew does during the transfer. If a venue runs late, the host or organiser decides whether to shorten the next stop and tells the crew straight away.

Common questions

Is Lundu one destination?

No. Reference sources describe Lundu as a district in the northwest of Kuching Division with a town, coastal areas and a national park. Each venue is a separate site with its own access, so we plan venue by venue.

Who gives permission at each property?

The owner, host or operator of that place. Ask each in writing what applies to professional photography and to the ceremony or activity you plan. Send us the replies.

How should we plan for rain?

The area has heavy rainfall through the year according to reference sources. Choose a covered space at each property before the day, and agree who moves the programme indoors.

Who arranges the crew's stay?

Agree it in the quotation. If you or a host arranges accommodation, say so and share the details. If we arrange it, the quotation lists the cost and the responsibility for changes.

Can you describe local customs in the captions?

Only from what the host tells us and with a local person's review. Customs differ between families and communities, so we do not generalise. Name a reviewer for any cultural description.

Send us all properties, host or operator contacts, event days and your covered alternatives, and we will write a venue-by-venue plan including crew stay and changes.

What happens next: You send your event details on WhatsApp. Our team reads the brief, asks what is missing, then confirms in writing whether the date, venue and coverage can be booked, with a quotation. Opening WhatsApp does not send anything, and a message is not a booking until both sides confirm.
