Problems and contingency

Delivered photo files will not open or downloads fail

You have the link, but the photographs will not open, or the download stops partway.

Short answer

Work from the simplest cause outward: check the link and your internet connection, try another browser or device, free some storage space, and then test a different file. Note the exact message you see. If the problem continues, send support a screenshot of the error and the time, without sharing passwords or the private link in public.

A file that will not open can feel like the end of a long wait. In most cases the cause is ordinary and easy to fix: a link, a connection, a device or a setting. Working through the checks in order saves time and gives support something concrete to act on.

First, what exactly is failing?

Write down the answer to four questions before you try anything else.

  1. Does the gallery link open at all?
  2. Do thumbnails appear but a full image fails?
  3. Does a download start and then stop?
  4. Does the file download but not open on your device?

Each points to a different cause. A link that does not open is an access problem. A download that stops is a transfer problem. A file that downloads but will not open is an application or file problem.

Access problems

If the gallery will not open, check the basics.

  • Copy the link again from the original message. Part of it may have been cut off.
  • Check that the link has not expired. Expiry rules are in your agreement, and our guide on gallery expiry and the photographer's archive explains what to ask.
  • Check whether a password or code is needed, and enter it exactly as sent.
  • Try another browser, and a private window.

If you still cannot get in, send support your event date and a screenshot of what you see. Do not post the link or any password in a group chat. Our guide on private gallery access and onward sharing explains why.

Transfer problems

Downloads can fail for ordinary reasons. Large galleries need a steady connection and enough space on the device.

  • Move to a stronger connection if you can, or try at a quieter time.
  • Free some space on the device. A full phone or laptop is a very common cause.
  • Download in smaller groups rather than all at once, if the gallery allows.
  • Pause other downloads or streaming.

Our guide on downloading and handing over a large gallery explains approaches for big deliveries, and the one on receiving photographs over a slow connection covers limited internet. Ask support whether the gallery can be split into smaller parts if the full set keeps failing.

File and application problems

If a downloaded file will not open, test a few things.

  • Try a different photograph. If most open and one does not, that single file is the problem.
  • Try a different application or device, such as a phone, a computer browser or a standard image viewer.
  • Check that the file did not download partly. A file much smaller than the others may be incomplete.
  • Check that the device software is up to date.

We do not give detailed technical guidance on specific apps or formats here, because they differ and change. Primary guidance from your device or software maker is the best source for those details. If you are unsure of the format, ask support what format was delivered and why. Our guide on choosing delivery formats and access methods explains common formats and how they are used.

What to send to support

A good report includes:

  • your event name and date
  • what you tried and in what order
  • the exact message you saw, or a screenshot
  • the date and time of each attempt
  • which files are affected

Leave out passwords and do not forward private links beyond support. If you cannot reach your delivery email, see the client loses access to the delivery email address.

A hypothetical example

Imagine an organiser who tries to download a gallery of four hundred images on a phone. The download stops at about sixty percent. They free space, switch to a stronger connection, and retry. It fails again.

They send support a message: the event date, the time of each attempt, and a screenshot of the error. The reply offers the gallery in smaller parts, and the organiser downloads them on a laptop. The photographs open normally, and the organiser then runs through the photo delivery acceptance checklist to confirm nothing is missing.

After the download

Once the files open, check that they are complete before the link expires. Our photo archive planner helps you decide where to store them. If you find a moment missing after download, see an agreed moment seems missing. For the wider picture, our hub on when plans or delivery go wrong explains how to raise any other concern.

  • Test whether one file or all files fail.
  • Send support a screenshot and the time, without sharing passwords publicly.

Common questions

Should I share the gallery link when I ask for help?

Send it only to the support contact who delivered it, not to a public group. A screenshot of the error and the time you tried usually suffice. Never share passwords in a public message.

Why does the download stop halfway?

Common causes are an unstable connection, not enough storage space on your device, or a very large download. Try again on a stronger connection, free some space, or ask whether the gallery can be downloaded in smaller parts.

A file will not open on my computer. Is it damaged?

Not always. The file may need a different application or an update. Try another viewer or another device, and test a different photograph. If one file fails and others open, tell support which file.

What if the link has expired?

Galleries can have time limits that are stated in your agreement. Ask support whether access can be restored, and say when you first tried. Our guide on gallery expiry and the photographer's archive explains what to ask.

Can the photographs be delivered another way?

Possibly. Ask what other delivery methods are available for your booking. Some recipients cannot use an online gallery, and alternatives may exist depending on your agreement.

Report a download problem

If photographs delivered by us will not open or download, send support your event date, what you tried, the error message and a screenshot, and we will reply with a fix or an alternative delivery method.

What happens next: You send your event details on WhatsApp. Our team reads the brief, asks what is missing, then confirms in writing whether the date, venue and coverage can be booked, with a quotation. Opening WhatsApp does not send anything, and a message is not a booking until both sides confirm.
